I want to work, but I don't have the finances for a new truck. My Volvo burned down…

A story by Valery Chile from Odesa

Our agriculture company is a family type. My father started to develop it in 2007, initially, the land area was 500 hectares, now we have more than 3,000 hectares. My father was primarily engaged in crop production (grain), and I wanted to engage in animal husbandry, in particular, to establish the sale of pork in the regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Zhytomyr region) and beyond. We already have chickens, geese, and pigs, we sell meat. There are also horses, but they are purely for pleasure as a hobby.
We wanted to scale the farm
Before the war, I began to actively establish contacts with shops in Kyiv and neighboring regions, but for obvious reasons, everything stopped. I have lost markets, distribution and logistics are on pause. The war broke all agreements.
There are several hundred tons of grain in the warehouse, but it is currently difficult to sell. In fact, nothing happens to pork either. The company, thank God, operates, we pay salaries to employees (of which we have 50), but we work only with those clients with whom we have close ties for a long time. For example, neighboring businesses ask for meat for stew.
Plans to scale up and enter European markets have also stalled. We are looking for financing, we have received a loan from Oschadbank, but we need more. In the meantime, we are undergoing licensing so that everything is clear from the documents and our meat meets European standards.
Many of our tractor drivers have been mobilized
So we also have difficulties with personnel. Infrastructure is needed so that workers can come for the season and be able to live temporarily on site. As an idea, we consider the construction of housing, modular buildings.
In our village, there is an old abandoned collective farm and old houses that were not used. According to the program, the head of the collective farm protected refugees and temporarily sheltered women with children from the Donetsk region. Immigrants now live in all available vacant premises.
In the future, we have good plans, far-sighted, but to implement them we need people, money, and new technology. A lot is needed. I do not expect help from anyone, I rely on myself.
